Who We Are

Feedstock Research Associate

The candidate will be working with a multi-disciplinary team to develop and scale up a process to produce ethanol from cellulosic biomass. The role of a Feedstock Research Associate is to work in the laboratories at the DDCE facility in Vonore, Tennessee to manage the inventory of experimental feedstock samples, analyze incoming feedstock samples with both spectroscopic and wet chemistry methods, and assist in conducting experiments on the DDCE process at the lab-scale. The work will be focused on the following areas: analysis of feedstocks such as energy crops and crop residues, maintaining a harvest inventory and analytical database, and performing lab-scale pretreatment, saccharification and fermentation.

The role of the Feedstock Associate will be to analyze feedstocks and the utilization of lignocellulosic feedstocks in CE processes, with a focus in two areas: 1) initially the work will be to generate compositional data on harvest feedstock samples by spectroscopic methods and to maintain a feedstock inventory and database; and 2) generate an understanding of feedstock characteristics on the key process steps for conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to ethanol.

The goals of these work streams will be to generate a feedstock variability analysis, develop in-house spectroscopic analysis abilities and assist in developing optimized conditions for lignocellulosic conversion unit operations.

Summary of essential job qualitifcations

A B.S. degree in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering with 2 to 5 years of experience. Understanding and experience with lignocellulosic feedstock analysis and conversion technologies such as pretreatment, saccharification and fermention of mixed C5 and C6 streams is essential.

Offers of employment will be contingent upon satisfactory results of medical exams, drug tests and background checks.
